What "large room" means here
A large living room, an open-plan kitchen and living area, or a finished basement often runs well past 500 sq ft, which is the largest room option in our finder. Every humidifier on this list is rated by its maker for 600 sq ft or more, so it has headroom over that option. Makers don't say how they measured room size, and none of them account for ceiling height, so if your ceiling is higher than usual or the space opens onto a hallway or stairwell, lean toward the larger ratings.
The six picks fall into three groups:
- Big-tank cool mist towers. The Levoit OasisMist 1000S and the Dreo 747S hold 10 L and 11 L and state 100 hours on one tank, the longest run times in our catalogue.
- Warm and cool mist. The Dreo HM717S and the Levoit LV600HH and LV600S can heat the water for warm mist as well as run cool. Levoit lists a rated power of 280W for both of its models, so the warm setting draws much more power than cool mist.
- Evaporative. The Levoit Superior Studio Smart gives off moisture you can't see, through a wick filter. Levoit says its wick filter "life lasts up to 2 years" based on one wash a week.
How to pick between these
- If you want to refill as rarely as possible → the Dreo 747S or the Levoit OasisMist 1000S, both stated at 100 hours. The 747S is rated for the larger room (700 sq ft), and Dreo states 21 dB for it; Levoit states no noise figure for the 1000S.
- If you want a warm setting → the Dreo HM717S (600 sq ft, 80 hours), the Levoit LV600HH (753 sq ft, 36 hours, remote control) or the Levoit LV600S (753 sq ft, 50 hours, VeSync app). The HM717S runs longest on a tank; the two Levoits are rated for the larger room.
- If you don't want visible mist → the Levoit Superior Studio Smart, the only evaporative pick here; Levoit states 19 dB on its lowest setting.
- If you want the humidifier to hold a set level → all six picks state automatic humidity control on their maker pages, from Levoit's Auto Mode to Dreo's humidity control to within 5%.
