How we choose
Short answer
We match products to your answers using the specs each maker publishes on its own website. Your must-haves decide which products appear. Your nice-to-haves decide the order. We don't test products hands-on, and we don't use Amazon prices, star ratings or reviews.
What we compare
- Each category covers models sold in the US, compared on the specs behind the finder's questions, such as capacity for air fryers or screen size for TVs.
- A model is included only when we can cite its maker's specs and link it to its exact Amazon listing.
- The comparison shows up to three matches side by side.
Where the specs come from
- Every spec comes from the maker's own product page, spec sheet or manual. We keep the link for each one. You'll find these links on each top-picks list and in the "Source" row of the comparison.
- If a maker doesn't state a spec, we record it as not stated. "Not stated" never counts as a yes.
- Budget answers use the price on the maker's own US store. We show that price, or that the maker's US site shows none, above each Amazon button, with the store's name and the date we checked it. Amazon's price may differ.
- We never take specs, prices or reviews from Amazon pages, and our research tools never open Amazon pages.
- Each guide and list shows the date it was last updated. Makers can change specs and prices after that date.
- Research and drafting are done with AI assistance. A separate AI check looks for unsupported claims, unclear questions and duplicate products. We review and approve every category before it goes live, and the approval is recorded.
How matching works
- Must-haves, such as budget or size, filter the list. A model appears only if its maker-stated specs meet every one. "No preference" means no filter.
- Nice-to-haves, such as a feature you'd like, never remove a model. Each one a model meets adds to its fit score, and a higher score ranks higher. For a number such as weight, a model that misses the range you chose but meets a looser one gets that looser option's smaller credit.
- We never loosen your must-haves. If only one model fits, we show one. If none fits, we say so.
- Each match lists why: ✓ matches, – doesn't match, ? not stated by the maker.
- Before a category goes live, every combination of must-have answers, including "No preference", needs at least two matching models. A combination with exactly one match can go live only with a recorded reason. A combination with none blocks publishing.
- When at least one model earns credit for a nice-to-have you chose, the first column is labelled "Closest match". It is closest to your answers, not a verdict on every product on the market.
- We compare one model per brand: each brand's highest-ranked match.
How we rank ties
When two models have the same fit score, the order is:
- Your budget band first. Models priced on the maker's own store within the band you chose come before cheaper ones. With no budget limit, the models above our top budget band come first.
- More of the asked-about facts stated by the maker, whether the answer is yes or no. A fact that isn't stated doesn't count, and facts you didn't ask about never count.
- The lower price on the maker's own store.
- A fixed catalogue order: an editorial order we may set within a category, then the Amazon product number (ASIN).
The same answers always give the same order. Commission rates and star ratings are never part of it.
How we pick Amazon listings
- We find each listing without opening Amazon, from one of two sources: the maker's own "Buy on Amazon" link (we read the product number from the link), or a search-engine result whose title or address shows the exact brand, model and variant, such as size or capacity.
- If we can't find a confident, exact match, the model is left out.
- We don't confirm every listing by hand, so a listing can still turn out to be wrong or unavailable.
- When a model is marked unavailable, it drops out of results and lists at once. Any replacement is reviewed before it goes live.
What we don't do
- We don't test products hands-on. Our matches come from maker-stated specs.
- We don't show or use Amazon prices, star ratings, reviews or images. We don't show product images yet; the comparison shows key specs instead.
- We don't name one product as the right choice for everyone. We show which models match your answers.
- We report what each maker states and make no health or safety claims of our own.
- We don't personalize results. They depend only on the answers you give.
How we earn money
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
The "See more" buttons go to Amazon and are paid links, labelled "(paid link)". If you buy through one, we earn a commission. Commissions don't change which models appear or their order.
Corrections
- Specs, prices and listings change. When we find an error or a change, we fix the data and the category goes back through review.
- While a corrected version is in review, the last approved version stays live.
- Every guide and list shows when it was last updated, so you can see how current it is.
